The Brief

Formerly the BC Film Commission and BC Film + Media, these two overlapping organizations were aligned by the BC government early in 2013. Both clients of Ion, we were thrilled to get the rebranding work for the new organization with an extended mandate to include film + television, music production, book + magazine publishing and digital media.

The Strategy

Ion developed a full Brandwise strategy through engagement workshops with internal and external stakeholders. Our strategy outlined the criteria for creative development and tactical implementation. The creative thrust was to develop a brand platform that was able to represent the creative industries in an abstract manner.



The Solution

The mark itself reflects the design process of iteration and refinement. Environmental in nature, through its elegant bokeh compositions, the brand platform represents BC’s creative industries’ close connection to the environment. Unexpected cropping and colour of typographic elements creates a dynamic tension that gives the work an edge reflective of BC's inspired creative industry attitudes.


The Result

Too soon to tell the new brand’s impact in the public realm, but internally it has already created brand champions. It has also brought the two organizations together with a dynamic new consolidated tool-set.
