Casey Hrynkow CGD, FGDC, B. Des., Senior Design Strategist

Casey brings a tremendous wealth of experience running one of Canada’s foremost design firms, Herrainco Brand
Strategy + Design.
She has been helping clients find and tell their stories for over 25 years. She is recognized for her skill in guiding clients like City of Coquitlam, Nisga’a Lisims Government and Pancreas Centre BC to clarify their objectives and goals for their communications tools.
Her knowledge of business innovation and semiotics allow her to refine the ideas that drive effective design. Casey is a Sessional Instructor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and British Columbia Institute of Technology.
She is a Fellow of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, and on the Advisory Board for Applied Arts, Canada’s national design magazine. She was also on the advisory team for the development of the Graphic Design for Marketing Degree Program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Casey recently completed a Certificate in Innovation Leadership at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

Keith Leinweber CGD, B. Des. (Hons), Senior Designer

Keith is a senior graphic designer at Ion. He earned a Bachelor of Design with Honours at Nova Scotia College of Art & Design after completing a diploma at Vancouver Island University. Prior to returning to Ion for his second tenure, Keith worked for five years with the University of British Columbia Alumni Association. There he further developed his management and executive skills in addition to his design craft.
Keith’s experience spans all aspects of design from branding and strategy through systems development, environmental design and wayfinding. He is detail driven and believes in strong client relationships through good communication and transparency.
Keith is a passionate graphic designer driven to effectively communicate solutions for any client. He is passionate about our world and helping people to live better lives. He also aspires to be a positive influence in the creative world.

Vanessa Ding CGD, BA, Senior Designer
They say being happy makes you more creative, and I believe that. For me that means croissants, puppies, and lots of coffee. – VD
Vanessa is a graphic designer at Ion. She graduated from the Design Essentials program of Emily Carr and BCIT after earning a BA in psychology at the University of British Columbia. She brings with her a toolbox that includes excellent communication skills, a keen sense for typography and a passion for art and design.
Her long-term work at Vancity Credit Union before joining Ion provided for an excellent proving ground for communication and customer service in a corporate environment.
Vanessa is part of Ion’s strategic and creative team and develops and maintains a number of key accounts.
Vanessa volunteers with the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, most recently at Icograda’s Design Currency conference in Vancouver.
Kaoru Coates, Dip. FA

Kaoru is administrator at Ion. Her style is friendly, open and detail oriented. You can expect your dealings with her to be upfront and direct. Kaoru provides bookkeeping and studio organization for the firm. She graduated from Emily Carr University in studio with a major in ceramics.
She has gone on to be more involved in the administrative side of the arts, managing the Gallery of BC Ceramics for four years and working at Circle Craft while teaching pottery prior to joining Ion.
Adam Flynn, B. Design, Junior Designer

Adam graduated from Vancouver Island University with a BA Major in Graphic Design. He is Ion’s current intern. In addition to his work at Ion, Adam also works as a freelance designer and photographer encompassing a diverse range of international clients.
Never settling for just one focus area, Adam is always learning new techniques and skills across all design mediums to approach each challenge with the attention and innovation it deserves. Through this technical proficiency and quick learning, Adam brings a vast skill set to Ion.
